InsectBiotech Pretreatment Research
In this episode of the InsectBiotech Group podcast, CEO Ignacio Gavilan and co-founder Tobias Webb discuss the company's innovative venture in Andalusia, Spain, focusing on rearing Black Soldier Flies (BSF) for sustainable waste conversion. Established to transform agricultural waste into valuable products, IBG aims to produce insect protein for animal feed, organic fertilizer from insect excrement, and chitin for pharmaceuticals and beauty products, using a fully circular approach. Collaborating with the University of Granada, they are researching to optimize the pretreatment of agricultural residues for BSF larvae. Plans include establishing R&D units for testing and eventually scaling up to a larger production facility, with the support of regional government and potential investors, highlighting the strategic importance of their project for sustainable agriculture and waste management.
